Dartmouth House wedding venue

One of my most favourite places to flower for a wedding is the wonderful Dartmouth House.. set in the heart of Mayfair, it has a lovely history and is currently the home of the English Speaking Union. But it is also a truly fabulous venue in which to get married

From the magnificent staircase that takes you to the first floor reception and ceremony rooms to the enclosed and private terrace, it is a stunning building that is all yours once you step over the threshold

Here is Charlotte with her bridesmaid and sister after getting married to Sean last year

The landing on the staircase is the perfect place for a welcome urn and the panelled Churchill Room is ideal for saying your vowsceremony flowers by blue sky flowers at dartmouth house

Dartmouth House Wedding

This December was one of the busiest I have ever known … seven weddings in total over 3 weekends! We were full on for three weeks, prepping, making, clearing and dishing out some Christmas displays in between! All good fun though and we came through with flying colours, I think, with some amazing weddings to look back on

Here is a preview of part of our December 5th schedule, a beautiful wedding at Dartmouth House, one of our favourite venues in central London and one that is so easy to look fabulous

Lauren was based overseas when we first met and talked flowers back at the beginning of 2015. We liaised quite a lot via email, catching up on flying visits where possible and then finally we went to the flower market to make choices on the flowers to use on the day itself

Roses, Hydrangea, Freesia, Phlox, Waxflower and Ranunculas featured heavily throughout giving a crisp fresh look to the flowers offset beautifully by fragrant silvery grey Eucalyptus foliage

The Churchill Room which is used for ceremonies at Dartmouth House is a striking but somewhat dark space … it was refreshing to see it lightened enormously by the change of chairs to these beautiful whitewashed Chivari ones adorned with delicate bunches of Gyp with organza ribbons

The white flower theme continued through to the reception in the Long Drawing Room and we dressed the fabulous staircase with a large urn of seasonal flowers to welcome guests as they arrived

It was a beautiful day, with a beautiful bride in a beautiful setting … what more do you need? x

Crossing the divide

Back in February of this year, I was contacted by a bride to be in the States who was getting married in Mayfair. Sibyl and I shared many emails before we actually managed to speak but we were able, by the power of the great wedding vibe, to understand each other and gather together a pretty powerful look for her wedding in June at Dartmouth House

This beautiful mansion in the heart of Mayfair is home to the English Speaking Union but also plays host to many weddings and parties throughout the year. If the weather is fine, it is possible to take advantage of the lovely secluded courtyard but otherwise there are several wonderful, character-filled rooms in which to entertain guests

The dark wood panelled Churchill Room is a fantastic space for the ceremony from which the party can move downstairs to the red-walled Revelstoke Room for drinks before alighting on the delicate features of the two interconnecting first floor Drawing Rooms

These rooms can be used together or separately, decorated in the same pale blue tones, they welcome almost any colour theme – except yellow perhaps. But then I have a problem with yellow in most places!

Following on from the pure white Hydrangea and Peony in the ceremony room, Sibyl wanted a dark red theme to the wedding flowers at the reception and we decided to set the flowers off with a dark red organza runner down the length of the long table

The silver vases worked really well with the gleaming cutlery and the tall silver candelabra were the perfect finishing touch
