What a year that was!!

In general 2016 has been a difficult, sad, trying, frustrating and annoying year …. It has also been a great, fun, challenging and exciting year especially for those in the wedding industry. I’ve seen many people jump into their wedding work full tilt and come up smiling and delighted for what the year has brought and excited for what still lays ahead

For me, this year has brought contact with new clients, lovely couples, fabulous venues… it has given me new challenges and lots of decisions to make but overall it has been a very good year!

I’m looking forward very much to 2017 and the new bits that are on the horizon, a new workshop/studio which I’m sharing with my buddy Sarah aka The Flower Bird, a brand new flower market which will be very exciting, new and shiny, lots of lovely weddings at some new venues and with new wedding planners which is always great… and best of all, I get to do what I love, every single day… how awesome is that!

For now though I figured a little walk back through some of the best bits of 2016 was called for… I hope you enjoy x

First we had a lovely wintery wedding at the Hotel du Vin down in Brighton with the lovely wedding photographer Lel Hurst. Lel chose a cool mix of whites including fragrant narcissi, lilac and White Cloud garden roses teamed with anemones, jasmine and Senecio foliage for her bouquet and a similar mix plus lisianthus and chincherinchee for her daughter’s bridesmaid bouquet. Once I get the pro shots sorted out I will be able to show a lot more of this lovely weddinglel's bouquet by blue sky flowers

Then it was to St Stephen’s church up in North West London with Emilie and Will who also had a palette of white and green… delphinium, hydrangea, roses and eucalyptus with some cute succulent buttonholes for the boys

I thought I could see a colour pattern for the year emerging but our very next wedding at the very same venue, St Stephens, was one of the most colourful of the year for Davinia and Robin …

As we moved into Spring, the weather changed a little and so did the flower spec … it still stayed quite pink but went rather more seasonal which we love!

Next up we had Charlotte and Sean at Dartmouth House in Mayfair shot by the lovely Julie Michaelsen

Then we come to the stunningly bright wedding of Alexandra Wood (tailor to the stars) and Daniel which was at St Michaels Manor in St Albans …. We had all the peonies and all the roses for this one!!

Another very colourful wedding followed soon after down at Hampton Court House with Belle and Tim and a palette of rich purples, reds and golds although the personal and ceremony flowers were primarily ivory and cream with accents of the purple that Belle loved so much

Further into the summer we had Ne-et and Rob’s amazing wedding at Pennyhill Park – this is just a sneak peek of the amazing top table shot by Anushe Low as the wedding is due to appear in a magazine soon!!

How many Bridesmaids…??

One of the nicest things about having finished working on a wedding is being able to look back through a set of beautiful photographs taken on the day by one talented individual or another… In this case that individual is Claire Graham, a truly gifted photographer with a great eye for detail as you can see here in her coverage of Sinclair and Andy’s wedding from Spring 2015

Sinclair and her sister India run the very successful dress company, Maids to Measure, and you can be sure that she had no problems in deciding where to get her best girls’ dresses from… the difficulty came in choosing the girls themselves! So she opted for them all to be bridesmaids, all 13 of them!!sinclair and andy wedding shot by claire graham

Sinclair wanted to have a family oriented wedding based in her home town of Portsmouth using the space at her parent’s house to put up a ‘tent’ – we weren’t allowed to call it a marquee. But whatever it was, a truly magical space was created for Sinclair and Andy to celebrate their marriage with all their friends and family

With the styling talents of Louise from Bloved, the woman-power that is Anna from Bride & Glory and the Mary Poppins-like van full of accessories from Penny at The Little Lending Company, we set to transforming this empty space into something truly wedding worthy

To start with the ceiling was festooned with miles of lights, intertwined with what seemed like half of a Tuscan olive grove. Galvanised buckets destined to serve as champagne and beer ice buckets were suspended from the cross beams – an inspired idea from Penny that left room on the tables for the pots of steaming pies that were served at dinnersinclair and andy wedding shot by claire graham

But I think the girls’ bouquets gave me the most pleasure on the day … a delicate calming palette of ivory, cream, soft peach and pink Roses and Stock with a little Jasmine thrown in for good measure made up the 13 bridesmaids’ posies and Sinclair carried a whopper of a bouquet comprising Lilac, Hydrangea, Jasmine, Queen Anne’s Lace and Asparagus Fern. Her only stipulation ‘no roses for me’!

All in all this was an amazing wedding, with a great deal of thought and effort from a whole host of suppliers and a bride with a vision to let us get on with it!! x

Love is in the air …

…everywhere you look around! And no more so than in this fabulous coverage of Katie and Tom’s summer wedding from last year. Shot beautifully by Hannah McClune it has already appeared in Perfect Wedding June 2016 issue but if you missed that, do have a look through at this wonderfully romantic wedding and all its lovely details

katie and tom at Hampton Court House shot by Hannah McCluneFrom the beautiful ceremony in the entrance hall at Hampton Court House, through to the Dining Hall reception, the whole wedding looked so pretty!! Katie was very clear about the look that she wanted… soft, romantic, delicate colours and flowers with hints of blush and gold… but other than that she was happy to leave me free rein to create displays to fit with the venue – a perfect bride in other words

Hannah captured some lovely shots of the girls getting ready on the wedding morning and the arrival of Katie and her maids’ flowers – pastel bouquets of fragrant garden roses, stock, freesia and lisianthus tied with lush silk ribbons from Lancaster & Cornish

And a gorgeous gift in a special blue box from Tom which arrived before she left #love

katie and tom at Hampton Court House shot by Hannah McCluneThe couple were blessed with a lovely sunny day last September and Hannah managed to get some shots outside in the venue’s gardens, just how in love do they look?
